Brown at the First Baptist Church Thursday afternoon. The Rev. B.G. Hankins of Mount Pleasant read several passages of scripture and led a prayer. The Rev. Thorwald C. Jensen gave the funeral message. The text of the message was from Hebrews 4:3: "We which have believed do enter into rest." Two duets, "Abide With Me" and "The Last Mile of the Way" were sung by Rev. and Mrs. Jensen. A solo "God's Way is the Best Way" was sung by Mrs. Thorwald Jensen. Miss Judith Peterson was the accompanist. George N. Brown was born in Henry County, near Mount Pleasant [near Denova], on March 1, 1879. At the time of his death he was 58 years, 10 months, and 6 days of age. He was the son of Mr. P.L. and Rebecca Harshbarger Brown. His mother passed away when he was but six months old. On July 17, 1909, he was married to Clemma Mae Deal Mosier. She passed away March 19, 1915. In September of 1908 he moved to Grover, Colorado and lived there until April, 1912. At that time he moved back to Mount Pleasant and has resided here until the present time. On January 5, 1916, he was married to Ruth Ione Marshall, whom he leaves to mourn his death. He also leaves two step-children, Everett Mosier of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Harlan [Eleanor] Jerrell of Mount Pleasant. There are also three brothers: Elmer Brown of Wapello, Charley Brown and John W. Brown of Mount Pleasant. Mr. Brown was converted in August, 1918, and although he never united with any church organization, he came to be known as a man of great faith in God, and in Jesus Christ. During the last months of his life, in spite of severe suffering, he was a splendid witness of the power of the Christian faith, and brought genuine encouragement to all who came in contact with him. He leaves a host of friends who mourn his departure, but who rejoice in their memory of him. - Mt. Pleasant News, December 9, 1937.
