Urich, 83, of Scotia died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul. Memorial services will be held at a later date. At his request, Mr. Urich was cremated. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. He was born on Sept. 9, 1920, to George and Anna Urich. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Eileen and Rose. Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and his many friends. He was the youngest of 10 children. His parents were immigrants with German heritage. George grew up in Scotia and graduated from Scotia High School. He was a clerk in the U.S. Army as well as playing saxophone in a post dance orchestra. After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked at the Scotia Register for his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. M.G. Williams. He and his wife, Rose, purchased the newspaper in the mid-1970s and ran it until retirement. He was an active, longtime member of the Scotia Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Scotia United Methodist Church.
