Cline, and attached to a spring wagon, ran away, killing one of the occupants of the wagon. Four young men living in the Locust Grove neighborhood, Loyd Cline, son of T.L. Cline, Ralph Allen, son of Lon Allen, Willie Wells, a nephew of T.L. Cline, and George Porter, son of Isaac Porter, were out driving. Coming down the steep grade north of Potter the team becam unmanageable and dashed into Potter at a furious pace. When the wagon struck the crossing between Jewell's store and the Kansan building young Porter either leaped or was thrown from the wagon. He struck with great force on his head, almost plowing a furrow in the ground. He was carried into Hampton Hundley's house and Dr. Redmond was summoned. He proved to be fatally hurt dying in about fifteen minutes. The other young men were hurt but not seriously. The death of George Porter has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of friends and relatives. He was born and raised in this vicinity and, at the time of his death was in his 19th year. The funeral services were held at the home of P.H. Fleer at 3 o'clock, Monday, Mr. John Beard officiating. Burial at Fair View cemetery. To the broken-hearted father, mother, brothers and sisters, we extend our heart felt sympathy.
