Crockett, fell in an attack of acute indigestion, and died in a few minutes, before the assistance that had come to his aid could carry him home. Capt. Crockett's death was very unexpected, and a great shock to the people of Crisfield, as he was apparently in good health, but he had been subject to attack of this kind for some time past. When he left home a short while before death occurred, no one dreamed the end was so near. Capt. Crockett, could be termed a pioneer resident of this city, having lived here since its beginning, and having been prominently connected with the early interests of the town. He was one of the largest owners of real estate and vessel property in Crisfield at the time of his death. In his younger life, Capt. Crockett was a follower of the water, being engaged in the Oyster business as a bay captain on the Chesapeake. However, some years ago, he bid farewell to the boundless deep, and retired to a quieter life with his family and friends in this city. Since that time he has been a familiar figure on our streets daily, and has had many interests of the town at heart. Capt. Crockett was 69 years of age. The deceased was twice married, and is survived by his last wife, Mrs. Ella Crockett, and three children who are: Mrs. Jas. T. Tull, Mrs. W. B. Justice and Mr. Clarence Crockett, all of this city. Funeral services were held in Mt. Pleasant M. P. Church, conducted by Rev. Louis Randall, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The body was laid to rest in the family lot at the Crisfield cemetery. The pallbearers were: Messrs. John P. Tawes, Wm. P. Horsey, J. Frank Tawes, J. B. Nelson, Travis Nelson and Alfred T. Lawson. The funeral services were attended by a large host of friends and acquaintances, who came to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed dead.
