Read More	George Reeb (as printed in the Polk Progress 01-08-1948) POLK’S OLDEST CITIZEN CALLED BY DEATH George Reeb, son of Katharine and Nicholas Reeb, was born on March 9, 1856 in Alsace-Lorraine, France. In infancy he was baptized and at the age of 14, he was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. In this Christian faith he remained a steadfast member until the time of his death. In the earlier years of his life he was in the service of the German Army. At the age of 28 he immigrated to America and on November 22, 1886 at Peoria, Illinois he was united in marriage with Charlotte Reeb. This union was blessed with six children. In the year 1890 they moved to York County, Nebraska and later to this vicinity. They retired to their home in Polk in 1924. For the past two years he was the oldest citizen in Polk. It was after moving to this vicinity that he became a member of the Lutheran Church to which he belonged at the time of his death. For 18 years he served on the board of Trustees and was the oldest member of this congregation. His wife and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Carlson have preceeded him in death. Since the time of his wife’s death he has made his home with his daughter , Mrs. Wm. Garling in Polk. Upon reaching the age of 91 years, 9 months, and 1 days, he answered the summons of his Savior on December 26, 1947. He leaves to mourn his passing two sons and three daughters; Henry, Lillie, and Sophie of this communit, Helen and Harold of Portland, Oregon; two daughters-in-law, four sons-in-law, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Long on Monday, December 29, 1947. Interment was in the family plot in the Lutheran cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ramsey, Virgil and Bernice Blase rendered the song “Never Grow Old” at the Brauer Funeral Home and “Old Rugged Cross” and “Rock of Ages” at the church accompanied by Elaine Garling. The singers and accompanist were grandchildren of the deceased. The prelude and the recessional were a medley of hymns played on the pipe organ by Richard Dankert. Sons and sons-in-law of the deceased were pall-bearers. The floral tributes were beautiful and many memorials were given. Attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. Carrie Newhouser and Henry Reeb of Peoria, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Carmon of Pleasanton, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kennel and sons, Mrs. Carl Reeb and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kennel and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Saltzman and family of Shickley, Nebraska, Mrs. Bert Roth of Iowa; Mr. Willard Kennel of Oregon; Bernice Blase of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Vergil Blase of Sargent Bluffs, Iowa.
