Read More	Glasco Sun, Feb. 10, 1921, page 1: GEORGE RUPERT COLWELL George Rupert Colwell was born in South Alton, Nova Scotia, July 29th, 1849, and died at his home in Glasco, Kansas, February 5th, 1921, aged 72 years, 6 months and 7 days. He was the son of James and Eunice Colwell and one of a family of ten children, five of whom survive him. In the year 1870 he came to Eastern Kansas, returning to Nova Scotia in 1871, where he was married to Miss Sarah McConnel, bringing his bride back to Kansas. He moved to his homestead four miles east of Glasco in 1872, where the wife died the next year, leaving a baby son, who died at the age of eleven years, at the home of his grandparents in Nova Scotia. September 17, 1877, he was united in marriage to Hester Wilson and to this union two children were born, Frank J. and Mrs. Ellen Martin, who live here and were at his bedside at his death, as was Mrs. Elizabeth Austin, a sister, and brother William Colwell. Mr. Colwell came to this country almost penniless, but possessing some of the determination and humor of his Scotch Irish ancestors, he endured cheerfully the hardship of the early pioneers and became one of the most prosperous farmers of this community. He united with the Christian Church at Glasco in January 1896 and was baptized by Rev. G.F. Black. He was always much interested in the work of the Church and took a very active part in the erection of the new building. In May, 1900, he and his wife moved to Glasco where they built their present cottage home in which he took great pride. Sunday morning, January 16, 1921, he suffered a stroke of paralysis, which he realized was to be the last illness, and the next day he planned his own funeral. He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife, who was constantly at his bedside, the daughter, son, and seven grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, a number of other relatives and a host of friends, who extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral was held at the house and was conducted by Rev. Bend of Concordia. Interment was in Glasco cemetery.
