Description	:	Word reached here Friday night of last week of the death, at noon that day, of George W. Baker, a pioneer of the Boulder Valley, at San Diego, Calif. The dispatch said the end came peacefully while he slept. The remains arrived on the noon stub today, accompanied by Mrs. Baker, and the Christian Science service will be read at the Congregational church at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. The remains arrived on the noon stub today, accompanied by Mrs. Baker, and the Christian Science service will be read at the Congregational church at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. Death was due to a general breakdown, following a paralytic stroke about two years ago. George W. Baker was born December 28, 1840, in Essex County, Vermont, and was one of three sons. His father removed to New York, then to Minnesota, and in 1884 came to Montana and resided with his son until his death, November 24, 1889, at the age of 74. The early life of George W. Baker was silent in New York, where he worked on his father's farm and attended school. In 1839, at the age of 19, he went to California and mined with fair success until 1866, when he went to Nevada and for 15 years followed mining and freighting. He came to Sweet Grass County in 1881 and secured 450 acres on the Boulder where he engaged in stock raising. At one time he had 468 head of Herefords, also 160 head of horses and a line stallion of the same breed. Later he went into sheep, with cattle on the side, the firm being Baker and Bruffey. He was married March 2, 1876 to Emma B. Cowles of Danville, Wis. who survives him. Four children were born of the union, Pearl, Mrs. Primus A. Bruffey of this county; Mabel, wife of Elmer C. McConnell of California; Ralph W. of McLeod, and Edna Campbell of this city. Big Timber Pioneer 21 June 1922
