Crumley died at 11:05 o'clock this morning in St. Mary's Hospital, of paralysis. He suffered a stroke April 9, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Van Cleave, who lives ten miles southwest of Emporia, and was brought to Emporia more than a week ago. Mr. Crumley was born in Missouri, April 11, 1848. He came to Kansas with his parents when he was seven years old. For twenty-one years he lived in Elk County. He was a Populist representative from Elk County in the Kansas legislature in 1891 and in 1893. He came to Emporia twenty-four years ago, and was in the grocery business and later in the coal business. He retired from active life two years ago, when his health failed. Mr. Crumley was married at Lawrence in 1867 to Miss Ellen Preston, who died five years ago. He is survived by five children, Mrs. Daisy Barter and Mrs. May Van Cleave, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. James Van Cleave and Mrs. Maude Gwinner, Emporia; and Sam Crumley, Berenda, Calif. Mr. Crumley is the only one of the out-of-town children who will be able to attend his father's funeral. He is expected to arrive in Emporia Monday. Mr. Crumley was a member of the Baptist Church. Definite funeral arrangements have not been made. ******************************************************* The Emporia Gazette, 05 May 1917, Saturday THE CRUMLEY FUNERAL MONDAY Funeral services for George W. Crumley, who died yesterday morning in St. Mary's Hospital, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, at the First Baptist Church, and will be conducted by Rev. James C. Thoms, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. D. Y. Donaldson, pastor of the First Christian Church. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, beside the body of Mrs. Crumley.
