Read More	OBITUARY FOR GEORGE GRIFFIN as found in JAMESTOWN SUN Friday 11 November 1960 p3 (copy provided by FAG contrib. #47916873 and transcribed by FAG contrib. #47363656) George W Griffin, 92 year old Local man, Dies Today George W Griffin Sr., 92, long-time resident of Jamestown, died here Thursday night after being in poor health for the past several years. Mr. Griffin was born Oct 2, 1868 in Utica, O., and moved with his parents Mr and Mrs. Thomas P Griffin, to Britt, Iowa, in 1880. He received his education there and later attended Ames Agricultural College, Ames, Iowa, where he completed the course in carpentry. His marriage to Sarah Brown took place May 29, 1892 in Boone, Iowa. The family moved to Kansas in 1903, and to Tulsa, Okla, in 1904. In 1905 they came to Gackle, where Mr. Griffin worked at the carpentry trade in addition to homesteading. Coming to Jamestown in 1912, he continued his work as a contractor and builder until his retirement in 1944. At one time during his years in Jamestown Mr. Griffin operated the Empire Fuel Co. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary May 29, 1956 and Mrs. Griffin died the following spring on March 17, 1957. Survivors include two sons, George F Griffin, Jamestown, and Ernest H Griffin, Moorhead, Minn.; three grandchildren, Richard T Griffin and Mrs. Donald Rehak (Leone) of Jamestown and Capt. James Robert Griffin, Puyallup, Wash.: 12 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. D. J. Hogan, Portland, Ore. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, a daughter, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral arrangements are pending, the body is at the Daly-Peterson Funeral Home.
