George W. Louis was born in Bluffton, Indiana, November 23, 1848. He was the son of Nicholas and Rebecca (DeMoss) Louis. His father was a Frenchman, having been born near Nancy, France. Mr. Louis spent all of his life in and near Bluffton, with the exception of a few years during which he lived at Warren. He was married on July 9, 1871, to Miss Sue Elston, at her home near Reiffsburg; and to this union were born three children, one of whom, Helen, is deceased. Lenoe Z., wife of Prof. Ernest Hayward, of Washington University, at Cowallis, Oregon, with Minnie and their mother, survive him. Mr. Louis died November 11, 1903 at six o'clock at his home on Central Avenue in Bluffton. He was aged fifty-four years, eleven months and eighteen days. He was a soldier in the Civil war, and held at his death a membership in Lew Daily Post G. A. R. and his funeral services will be in charge of his comrades. Of late years he has been in the oil business as an operator. He had an aptitude for affairs and possessed in a high degree those traits of character which qualify a man for the administration of trusts and endear him to his friends. He was interested in the Board of Charities of Wells county and at the time his death was probation officer of the Wells county juvenile court. He was liberal in dispensing charity, and generous toward all, faithful to his duties, and loyal to his friends. His funeral will occur at one p.m. on Friday at the First M. C. church, and will probably be conducted by Rev. Beeks and Rev. Lester. Interment will take place in the Stahl cemetery, near Reiffsburg, beside his father and mother.
