Needham, one of Van Buren county's best known and most highly respected citizens passed away at his home near Formosa at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning, November 2, 1935, aged 77 years, 6 months and 1 day. Burial was in the Union Hill cemetery Sunday, funeral services being conducted at the church at 11 o'clock by Rev. Burial was in the Union Hill cemetery Sunday, funeral services being conducted at the church at 11 o'clock by Rev. Claud Jenkins in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Mr. Needham was born in Tennessee May 1, 1858, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Needham. He came to Van Buren county in 1892, homesteading the farm where he continuously lived for 43 years. In early manhood he was married to Miss Nannie Rains in Texas, and of their union nineteen children were born, nine of whom survive, as follows: Henry Needham of Formosa, Edgar of Choctaw, Annis, now Mrs. Jimmie Jones of Formosa, Alvis, Allie, and Mace Needham of Bragg City, Mo., Lula, now Mrs. Reed Hammett of Formosa, George of the U. S. Army now stationed at Denver Col., Clarkie, now Mrs. Shirley Atkins of North Carolina, all of whom were present except Mrs. Atkins, at the funeral. The wife and mother passed away March 16, 1932.. Mr. Needham had been in ill health for some time suffering of dropsy and other ailments and had been bedfast for two months or more. Although he never affiliated with any church he was a believer in Christ and was ever ready to lend a helping hand to all those in distress. Besides the children mentioned he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Belle Needham of Formosa, two brothers, Ira and Bob Needham of Teague, Texas, two half brothers Walter of Little Rock and Oscar of Formosa, two half-sisters, Mrs. Irvin Malone of near Formosa and Mrs. Mrs. J O Halbrook of El Dorado, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
