Thomas was born in Boone, Ia., February 24, 1871, and departed this life at Glen Elder August 2, 1941, at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was a son of John and Rachel Thomas, who were among the first settlers of Republic county. Thomas was born in Boone, Ia., February 24, 1871, and departed this life at Glen Elder August 2, 1941, at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was a son of John and Rachel Thomas, who were among the first settlers of Republic county. He was married to Seluda May of Mahaska January 1, 1896, and to this union were born 7 children, one passing away in infancy. The remaining children are: Mrs. Ida Canfield of Sheridan, Wyo., Alvin Thomas of Atchison, Everett Thomas of Randall, Mrs. Elsie Saip of Salina, Manford of Rifle, Colo., and Lester of Richmond, Cal. He had ? grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His surviving brothers and sisters are A. J. thomas of Narka, Edd Thomas of Munden, Mrs. O. W. Fisher, Becca Naylor of Wellington, Colo., and C. F. Thomas of Buffalo, Mo. He came to Kansas with his parents when a lad of of six years and settled in the Ida community in Republic County. With the exception of about three years spent at Thompson, Nebr., he resided in the Ida community until 1919 when he moved his family to Randall. In 1931 they moved to the farm one-half mile east of Glen Elder. He was a member of the Methodist church in Glen Elder and has made many friends there. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Glen Elder, Tuesday Aug 5, with the Rev. R. H. Hardesty in charge. Burial was made in the Ida Cemetery in Republic county.
