Turney - Very unexpectedly to his many friends in Henry county came the announcement of the death of George W. Turney, which took place at Saint Anthony's hospital, Amarillo, Texas, Saturday morning, March 16, 1912, at five o'clock. A slight operation, preparatory to another, had been performed, after which he never rallied. He died on the thirtieth anniversary of his wedding; he and Miss Emma Fleagle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fleagle, having been married March 16, 1882, Trenton, Iowa. One daughter, Stacey, remains, with her mother to mourn. Deceased was a son of Daniel and Lovila Turney. He was born in Henry county, Iowa, two miles north of Trenton, Feb. 2, 1856. Three sisters and one brother have preceded him in death. Four brothers, C.C. and D.P. of Ceresco, Nebr.; Theodore of Swanton, Nebr., and Ward of California, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Ernst, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, survive. He taught school for a number of years in Trenton and Jefferson townships. He had special training for his work in Howe's Academy and Elliott's Business college, Burlington, Iowa. The later part of his life he devoted to farming and at the time of his death held large property interests in the Texas Panhandle. The funeral services were held on Thursday, Mar 21. A brief home service was held at the home of his wife's parents, 308 Broadway, at 8:30 which was largely attended. Afterward the remains were taken to Green Mound Chapel, where a house full of old friends and neighbors was in waiting. Funeral services were conducted by Frank E. Weston, pastor of the First Baptist church. The sermon was from the text, "The God of all comfort, who comforted us in all our afflictions," II. Cor., 1:2-3. The local choir sang. The large crowd, the beautiful expressions of sympathy, the many words of appreciation, and other tokens of love showed the high esteem in which George Turney was held and the fellowship of sorrow borne by a host of friends for the bereaved family. Interment was made in the cemetery near the Chapel. It was conducted by members of the I.O.O.F., to which the deceased belonged. [Mt.
