How Young George Woods Was Killed in Lonely Highwood Great Falls, Aug. 17—It has developed that the young man found dead on Davis creek last Saturday was George Woods, who was 19 years of age and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Woods of Armington, formerly proprietors of the Minneapolis House in Great Falls. The boy was well known being reared in this locality. Some time since the Woods family moved to Armington and George went to work on an adjacent ranch. Thursday morning he saddled a horse and started for Squaw Hollow to spend the day fishing. He tied the picket rope to his ankle and allowed the horse to feed. It is assumed he fell asleep and the animal became frightened and ran away, dragging the helpless youth to death at the end of a rope. The body has been conveyed to the home of his parents and funeral services will be held tomorrow. -- Great Falls Weekly (MT), 21 Aug 1896 The body of the man found near Geyser Saturday was that of George Woods, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Woods, hotel keepers at Armington, who were former proprietors of the Minneapolis House in Great Falls. It is thought that Woods got tired of riding and lay down to sleep, tying the rope that was on his horse to his wrist, and that the horse became frightened and ran, dragging Woods over a mile, breaking his neck and bruising his body. The body was removed to the home of his parents in Arlington and the funeral will be held today.
