William Wood, Pioneer of Cascade County, Meets Fatal Accident Near Augusta William Wood, 74 years old, a resident of Cascade county nearly 40 years, was killed in an automobile accident, six miles east of Augusta Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Wood was attempting to turn his car at the top of a hill and backed the machine over a bank. He was caught beneath the car and so severely crushed that he died within half an hour. Mrs. Wood, to whom Mr. Wood was married two years ago, was thrown from the machine, but only slightly injured. She summoned assistance from men working in a nearby field, who removed the car from Mr. Wood and called a physician from Augusta. Mr. Wood died before the physician arrived. Mr. Wood has been engaged in the ranching business in Deep Creek and had lived in Montana for nearly half a century, the greater portion of that period in Cascade county. He is survived by the widow, two sons and one daughter. The sons are William H. Wood, former Cascade county deputy sheriff but now of Troy, and Hiram E. Wood of Belt. The daughter, Mrs. E.H. Thomas, lives in Augusta. The body was brought to the W.H. George undertaking rooms late Wednesday night. --- 20 Aug 1921 The body of William Wood, who died at Augusta on Wednesday, will be forwarded to the W.H. George Co. chapel this morning to Belt for burial. The funeral will be held this afternoon.
