Description	:	George Washington Carlisle was the first born of Abraham Carlisle and Maria Jane White in LaClaire, Scott Co., IA. He married Margaret Jane Pedon 02 December 1875 in Iowa. They had eight children: Roxanna Jane, Alexander, Arminda "Blanche", William Wallace, Forrest Ellinger, Aurilla Pearl, Norman Wilber, and Loren Edward. In about 2003, I learned in a conversation with a Carlisle descendant, that Richard, (George's brother) who moved to the Texas Valley in 1911 had a farm near a smaller plot that "belonged to a 'red headed' Carlisle brother". This was thought to be George but no proof. It seems that the land was deeded to Richard when the owner decided to pull up stakes. It's been stated by family members that "George was the adventous one" which is why it is thought that it was he who bought the land near his younger brother Richard near Premont, TX in the early 1900's. Speculation for sure. Unfortunately, we have only B&W photos, so the "red headed one" is impossible to identify. ---------- Tipton Advertiser October, 1941 George W. Carlisle, Former Resident of Cedar, Summoned Funeral services was held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the McCormick Funeral Home for Mr. Geo. W. Carlisle, a former Cedar county resident who has been living in late years at Muscatine. The Rev. H. N. Poston, pastor of the Tipton Presbyterian church officiated and interment was made in Masonic cemetery. George Washington Carlisle was born at LeClaire, Iowa, October 25, 1854, coming to Tipton when a small boy. The remainder of his life was spent in Cedar and Muscatine counties. He was married to Margaret Jane Peden on December 1, 1875. She preceded him in death January 11, 1939. To this union were born eight children, Roxana Wooters of Pascagoula, Mississippi; Alexander, who died in 1918; Blanche Hines of Nichols, Iowa; Wallace of Lincoln, Nebraska; Forrest of Muscatine, Iowa; Pearl Hines of Nichols, Iowa; Norman of West Liberty, Iowa and Loren of Tipton, Iowa. Beside the seven living children, he leaves 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, William of Muscatine, Iowa, and John of Kansas City, Missouri, and a host of friends. He had been in ill health the last four years and passed away at Hershey Hospital, Muscatine, Iowa, on October 11, 1942.
