Mizner Loses His Life While Trying to Save His Property P. C. Parks, of Washington Township, brought the news to this city yesterday noon of the death of George Washington Mizner, also a resident of the aforesaid township, who died early Thursday morning after a night of suffering. On Wednesday afternoon a prairie fire swept over the country Northwest of this city. Mr. Mizner had just moved a large granary on his farm which contained a wagon, household goods, farm implements, etc. The building stood out on the open prairie, and he in the company with his son, Ray Thrasher and Jim Wilson, attempted to save it, but, owing to the high wind it was impossible. When all hope of saving the property was gone the old gentleman attempted to cross a nearby creek to save his life, but as he descended the bank the flames swept upon him. when picked up his clothes were burned off and his flesh fairly cooked. It happened about five o'clock in the evening and he lived until the next morning. Dr. Bartoo of Arcadia was called. Mr. Mizner, we should judge, was a man seventy years of age.
