Description	:	George Washington Shomo, 72, of Volga, died at an Elkins hospital about 1 am Tuesday, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Junior at 2 pm Thursday, with the Reverend M L Trough, pastor in charge and burial will follow at the Knights of Pythias cemetery in Junior. He had... Read More	George Washington Shomo, 72, of Volga, died at an Elkins hospital about 1 am Tuesday, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Junior at 2 pm Thursday, with the Reverend M L Trough, pastor in charge and burial will follow at the Knights of Pythias cemetery in Junior. Mr. Shomo was well known throughout the county for his many years of service as president of the Barbour County Sunday School Convention, later the County Council of Religious Education, a position which he resigned a few years ago after his health became bad. He had also served as a member of the County Board of Education from which he resigned last year. He was born near Junior, March 15, 1882, the son of George Nixon and Eliza Virginia Viquesney Shomo. He first married Miss Edna Bolton of Belington on May 28,1902 and three children were born to the marriage and died in infancy. Mrs. Shomo died July 11, 1936. George later married Mrs. Dessie Rogers of Volga who survives him. Mr. Shomo was a telegrapher and worked in Hendricks, Norton, Junior and Beverly, and was a part owner of one of the Junior mines. He was a member of the church from which he will be buried. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Cora Bibey, and Mrs. Monta Montgomery, both of Junior, and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his first wife and three infant children, he was also preceded in death by four bothers; Charles W. Shomo, William R. Shomo, Benjamin F. Shomo, and Eugene Shomo and two sisters, Goldie Shomo Montgomery and Carrie Shomo Bennett.
