Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Ritchey Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Blackman, a Congregational minister of Cheyenne, Wyoming, who had accompanied Fred Wheeland, a brother of the deceased, to Yuma, Wednesday morning the remains were taken to Denver for cremation. George Wheeland was born near Chillicothe, Ohio, on January 27, 1866. When he was 16 years of age, his parents moved to Edgar, Nebraska, where the deceased lived from 1883 to 1908 when he mode to Oberlin, Kansas. He moved to Yuma in 1918. He spent the greater part of his life in agricultural work. He passed from this life Saturday morning, April 23, 1938, at 10:25 o'clock at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 26 days. Being a student of the Divine laws, he made it a life study. His creed was to love thy neighbor as they self. His kindness and genial attitude toward his fellow men won the hearts of all who knew him, and they shall never forget him as a true friend and brother. He leaves hosts of friends in many parts of the country who will at heart miss one that was cherished by all who knew him. But he has only changed from this life to a higher life---- For when I am gone you view my clay, and think that I am dead, For what you see will not be me, only my vestments shed. Our God, the Heavenly Father, He who has called me home To greet the ones who have gone before, in that bright celestial home. I was only a flower to bloom on earth, and gradually fade away To bloom again in heaven, beyond the mortal clay. To return again as a comforter to those I left behind, To guide them in the law of truth, and unfold their mortal mind. Some day we shall meet in heaven in that beautiful home above, Where we will know our Maker, through the law of eternal love. He is survived by five sisters and two brothers--Mary E. Elgin, Long Beach, California; Anna Graham, Edgar, Nebraska; Della Porter, Davenport, Nebraska; Effie Kennedy, Davenport, Nebraska; Nora Williams, who has made her home with him for the last two years; Luther Wheeland, Edgar, Nebraska; and Fred Wheeland, Cheyenne, Wyoming. We wish you success, dear brother, In your mansion in heaven above, Your many friends join with us By sending you their love. We shall always remember you as a brother. Although you've faded from our sight, But we know you are safe with the Maker, For you lived a life that was right. ---The Yuma Pioneer, Yuma,Colorado The ashes of the deceased will be brought to Edgar for interment in the Edgar cemetery (sic).
