OBIT: Jefferson County Sentinel newspaper dated 10 June 1887---OBITUARY George William Bailey was born in Benton County, State of Missouri, December 22, 1866. When he was 5 years of age his parents moved to Kansas. And then again in the year 1865 his parents moved to Boulder Valley, in the territory of Montana, where they-while ripening into a good old age--had the pleasure of aging. William, the youngest of the family, grew from childhood into manhood, where his strong arm and willing spirit would be their support during declining years. But, alas within the limit of three short days all these seeming well-grounded hopes had fled, for just as the clock had tolled hour of 12--midnight--June 1, 1887, Wm. Bailey breathed his last, and was no more, his age being 20 years, 5 months, and 2 days. The subject of this memoir was a man possessing many noble qualities which caused much favorable comment upon the part of those who knew him best. The position he seemed most inclined to occupy by his fellowmen: of becoming a solid, useful citizen, instead of throwing away the strength and opportunities of early manhood, as do too many of our young men, was most commendable, and hence the confidence so often placed in him by all his neighbors. We mention what was with him a great principle. While he was a strong friend of temperance he was especially an enemy of intemperance. He hated it; he would give no such subtle for any vantage ground. He had seen his insidious approach to, and final overthrow of the young man who either could not or would not say "not one drop." No such tyrant could be allowed to twine his arms lovingly about his neck, and whispering peace in his ear, divert his attention from the main point of attack. William was an honored member of the order of Good Templars, in Boulder and it was here, as, at home, where he learned not only to practice temperance in the strictest sense, but to promulgate those principles which had become so essential a part of his moral being. In the above facts a noble example has been set of more enduring worth than all the silver and gold or any other thing of value. All honor to the memory of one so true to the principles he professed. But he has gone! and a sad bereavement has befallen the aged parents and other members of the family. We commend him to the care of Him who knows better than we know, and doeth all things for the best. William, we will miss you, but our remembrance of you will ever be pleasant. We will miss you in the Sunday School, in the church, and in the lodge but our love for you will be an unfailing as the stars that shine above our heads.
