Description	:	There is no separate monument for George William Broeffle or even inscription on his wife Maggie R. Breffle's gravestone for him. The stone mason misspelled her married name as "Breffle", probably because that is how the name was sounded out, with the "o" silent. His descendents that followed and his ancestors before, have honored the spelling as "Broeffle", which goes back into the documents of the previous three generations across. His occupations: 1885 as a butcher in Vinton, but primarily as a house painter, first noted in 1903. His father was Jacob L. (Lincoln or Lewis?) Broeffle 1826-1907. His mother was Nancy Ann Reynolds 1829-1888. He had at least 7 siblings: Melvin, Milford, Elizabeth, Annette, Ira, Solomon, and James. He was married 4 times: 1) Margaret "Maggie" R. Furry on 9 March 1882, she died before/during/after childbirth. Their living children were: Clifford W. Broeffle and Milo W. Broeffle. 3rd child was believed to be a girl, but is buried under stone marked "OUR BABY". His wife Maggie died due to complications of delivery or sickness on 2 Sept. , with the infant thereafter on the 24th of Sept. 1889. 2) Pearl M. Barker (died Krep) on 16, June 1897, divorced prior to June 1899. 3 & 4) Mary Henriette Sampson (widow of George Pelley, in Brandon) on two occasions: 1903, divorced and remarried George W. Broeffle again in 1907 - confirmed examination of original documents. Various contributors have identified him in the following to date: Iowa State Census 1885, Vinton, Benton, Iowa - occupation "butcher". US Census 1900 - Vinton, Benton, Ia. Iowa State Census 1905 - Buchanan, IA. US Census 1910 - Jefferson, Buchanan, IA. ? Census 1920 - Arthur, Kanabec, MN. US Census 1930 Brunswick Twp, Kanabec, MN. (Mora, MN is located here). An article obtained through the Buchanan County Historical Society found in their archive on film #008639936 has hand dated article "June 9, 1936" from the "Conservative" paper in Benton county, reports the trip of son Clifford Broeffle to Mora, MN to retrieve George's body for burial in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, Iowa. We are currently awaiting confirmation of burial as a search of the cemetery on Nov. 9th, 2020 did not reveal a stone or inscription. (Contributor: Marcia Harris #50043117).
