Scott Officiates; Spanish War Veterans In Charge. The funeral of George W. McCranie, 64, son of the late Captain George W. McCranie, well known pioneer newspaper publisher of north Louisiana, who was fatally hurt when the automobile in which he was riding was struck by a Missouri Pacific railroad train at the Thomas street crossing Monday, was held at the Peters funeral chapel Wednesday at 10 a.m. Rev. W. C. Scott, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated. Interment was in the old city cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Mangham, Sr., Walter Mangham, Jr., Dr. Philip Gayle, R. W. Germany, C. Moore and Ed Ross. Members of the local post of the United Spanish War Veterans officiated at the grave. The accident that cost the life of Mr. McCranie occurred when the car in which he was riding, driven by W. G. Gladney of Monroe, was struck by a train at the Thomas street crossing. Mr. Gladney reported that he was engaged in conversation and failed to notice the approach of the train until it was almost upon the car. His efforts to avert an accident proved futile. Mr. Gladney was himself uninjuried, but Mr. McCranie sustained internal injuries causing his death in a local hospital Tuesday morning. Mr. McCranie was one of ten children of the late Captain McCranie, of whom now only one, Don McCranie, planter residing on the Jonesboro highway, now survives. Mr. McCranie also leaves among other relatives, two nieces, Mrs. John Breard and Mrs. J. Morton Myatt and a nephew, J. D. Pritchard. Mr. McCranie in early youth learned the trade of printer, working on his father's paper, "The Ouachita Telegraph." Later he worked on the News and on the Star before the consolidation of the two papers.
