Exerpts from Niobrara Tribune issue dated March 14, 1901: The first of this week Will Cash was circulating a petition for the appointment as postmaster at this place, and it was being generally signed by every patron of the office. There is no doubt but that the office would be in good hands if Mr. Cash succeeds in his aspirations. William Cash was appointed Postmaster of Niobrara April 29, 1901 succeeding Frank Nelson. August 2, 1899 issue: Will Cash, the contractor and builder, has returned to town having completed the carpenter work on the farm of Joseph Kurka. OBITUARY Niobrara Tribune Thursday, April 30, 1909: "The citizens of Niobrara are called upon this week to mourn the loss of one of our oldest and most respected citizens, a man who has been prominent in the affairs of Niobrara for thirty years, and who, as a public servant in the capacity of postmaster during the past ten years, has won the highest esteem of all with whom he has had dealings. As a friend and neighbor he was beloved by all who knew him, his kindly disposition and never failing good temper winning friends at first acquaintance, and it is not likely that he had an enemy. William Cash was born in Dutchess County, New York, December 21, 1860. His mother died when he was eight years old. His father, Reuben Cash, married again in 1870 and to them five more children were born. The family moved to Nebraska in 1879, taking up a homestead about one mile south of Niobrara. "Billy" as he was affectionately called, was a young man 19 years of age, and while his father devoted most of his time to carpenter work at Santee Agency, Billy tended the farm, carving out a home in the new west, and acting as head of the family during his father's enforced absence. He was married September 1, 1897, to Emma Pease and five children were born to them. His wife and four children survive him, one child dying in infancy. For more than a year past he has been failing and all attempts of physicians to check his ailment, which was pronounced brights disease, were of no avail. His condition became so serious this winter that he was compelled to resign his position as postmaster and as soon as the responsibilities of the office were off his shoulders, he took to his bed and steadily failed until the end. He died Wednesday morning, February 10, 1909, at 6:30 after having lain in a coma state for three days. At the time of his death he was 48 years, 1 month and 20 days old. Besides his wife and four children he leaves his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Cash, and six brothers and sisters, Ada, Robert, Joe, and Walter Cash and Mrs. Mame (Henry) Gadow and Mrs. Kate (O R) Robinson, to mourn his loss. One of the happy recollections of these relatives will be that they were able to be with him almost constantly during his sickness, and this was a source of great satisfaction to the patient, and resigned him to the call which he knew had come. His scores of friends and neighbors were also very loyal in their kindly solicitations and tender ministrations, and to these the bereaved relatives wish us to extend their heartfelt thanks. The deceased was baptized in the Episcopal Church and was a charter member of both the Modern Woodman and Royal Neighbor camps of Niobrara; therefore, the funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 under the care of these two orders. It will be held at St Paul's Episcopal church, Rev. M J Brown, priest in charge, officiating. The citizens of Niobrara and vicinity who realize the loss and appreciate its significance, join the bereaved family in its sorrow."
