GARRETT, GERALD DEAN DEAN--Gerald Dean Garrett, the son of William and Edna Brower Garrett, was born November 29, 1924, on a farm near Geneva, Neb., and passed away at his home in Geneva, August 8, 1976. Dean attended the Geneva school and graduated in 1942. He entered the United States Navy in 1943, serving his country during World War II. He was married to Charlotte Y. Hiatt September 19, 1948. He spent some time at Davenport, Neb., in the plumbing business, later entering the plumbing business in Geneva with his father, taking over the business after his father’s retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, and father William (Pete) Garrett. He is survived by a daughter, Shelby; her husband, Vince, and grandson, Brint; his mother; one sister, Janet Vavra; her husband Stuart; two nieces Jana and Jadene, many other relatives and friends. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion, the Congregational church and was a fireman for many years. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, 1976, at the Farmer & Son funeral home in Geneva with Rev. H. Paul Smith officiating. Mrs. Alvin Rizer sang “Through the Years” and “How Great Thou Art”, accompanied by Mrs. Willard Foster. Pallbearers were John Brower, Wayne Chapman, Joe Dailey, Kenneth Hofferber, Loren Hofferber, and Billy Steider. Military graveside services were held at Geneva cemetery.
