He departed this life at the Fillmore county hospital in Geneva, Neb., Friday, June 23, 1972, having attained the age of 72 years, 8 months and 23 days. H. and Louisa Loghry Garrett, was born northeast of Geneva, September 26, 1899. He departed this life at the Fillmore county hospital in Geneva, Neb., Friday, June 23, 1972, having attained the age of 72 years, 8 months and 23 days. Pete, as he was familiarly called was a native of the Geneva community and a member of a pioneer Fillmore county family. He grew to manhood and spent his entire life in Fillmore county. He was a great sportsman and enjoyed all outdoor life. He farmed near Geneva before making Geneva his home. He was engaged in the plumbing business with his son Dean until his retirement. He was a former city councilman and a part-time employee of the city at the time of his death. He was also a member of the United Church of Christ and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Pete was united in marriage to Edna M. Brower at Belleville, Kas, on November 15, 1923. Born to this union were two children, both of whom survive, along with his wife, Edna. They are Dean and his wife Charlotte of Geneva and Janet Ann Vavra and her husband Stuart of Milligan; three grandchildren, Mrs. Shelby Lemke and husband Vincent of Lincoln, Neb., and Jana Marie and Jodene Renae Vavra of Milligan; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Crom of Geneva, and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, one brother and five sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Farmer-Harris funeral home in Geneva at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, with Rev. Delano Spitzer officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Hofferber, Frank Kamler, Ed McCluskey, Roy Meyers, Steve Watmore and Forrest E. White. Pallbearers were Thomas Hiatt, Robert Hofferber, Arthur Lux, Fred Nunns, Billy Steider and Bernard Weiss. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 13 July 1972 page 5.
