Description	:	Major General Gerald E. (Bud) Amundson Bud Amundson, 71 of Vermillion died December 27, 2001. Funeral services were December 31 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Mr. Amundson was born in South Dakota on July 14, 1930 to Burdette and Lillian Amundson. He graduated from Akron High School in 1948. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Westmar College in Le Mars in 1955. While attending school, Bud also was a four-year letterman on the Westmar football team. (Bud) Amundson Bud Amundson, 71 of Vermillion died December 27, 2001. Funeral services were December 31 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Mr. Amundson was born in South Dakota on July 14, 1930 to Burdette and Lillian Amundson. He graduated from Akron High School in 1948. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Westmar College in Le Mars in 1955. While attending school, Bud also was a four-year letterman on the Westmar football team. He was united in marriage to Karine Emmons on July 4, 1959 in Albert Lea, MN. Mr. Amundson joined the Army as an enlisted soldier in July 1952 and served in Korea. After two years of active duty training as a rifleman, he enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in September 1956. General Amundson's decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Service and Vietnam Service Medals, Legion of Merit, Army Distinguished Service Medal and the coveted Combat Infantrymen's Badge. General Amundson retired with 37 years of military service. Mr. Amundson started his civilian career as a teacher and football coach at Lynne Grove, IA and later at Kingsley-Pierson. He also worked as an insurance agent. In retirement he was happiest on his tractor and helping all those he loved. He resided on his farm for the last ten years of his life. He is survived by his wife, Karine of Vermillion; two daughters, Mary Emmons (Jeff) of Boxborough, MA and Beth Amundson of Jefferson, WI; two sons, Michael Amundson (Paula) of Vermillion and Patrick Amundson (Jill) of Vermillion; seven grandchildren; his mother, Lillian Amundson of Vermillion; sisters, Sally Gant, Arlys Gant, Ida Lou Horner, Judy Rasmussen and Sandy Amundson; brothers, Dean Amundson and Larry Amundson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
