He was the loving and devoted husband of Peggy Morningstar. Gerry and Peggy were married in May 1963 and just recently celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary. Gerry and Peggy shared a life of Unconditional Love and Devotion for nearly 60 years together. Born on January 13th, 1933, in Poolesville Md. Gerry was the son of the late Murrel Jesse Morningstar and Emma Marie Julia (Reich) Morningstar. Gerry loved and was devoted to his Mom and Dad and he shared a special bond of Love and dedication with his Mom after his Dad passed on to Heaven many years ago. He devoted his early life to his mother and his sisters, Dorothy and Bet and his best friend and brother Dick, always looking to help take care of and cherish his Mom and his entire family. Gerry was the loving father of Sharon Ann Wright and son-n-law Aaron of Woodbridge Va. and Steven Edward Morningstar and daughter-n-law RaNae of Poolesville Maryland. He was the precious and dedicated grandfather (Dad-Dad) of Jamie Jamison, wife of Frank Jamison and Steven Jr. and Tyler Morningstar as well as the Great-Grandfather of his precious and loving "Addie Girl" - Addison Jamison. Gerry was the brother to Dorothy Hightman (Deceased), Elizabeth Morningstar (Deceased) and his Brother and Best Friend for Life Richard "Dick "Morningstar (Deceased) and Dick's loving and devoted wife Nancy Morningstar. He was also the Uncle to Bramwell Hightman, husband of Stephanie. He was also the amazing and loving Brother-n-law to Peggy's five devoted sisters and their husbands and numerous nieces and nephews who all truly loved their "Uncle Gerry" so much. Gerry loved God, he was Baptized into Christ in 2009, he loved and cherished his Family and he sincerely Loved his Country , he served his country for 7 years as a proud and dedicated member of the United States Air Force. Gerry was a dedicated and valued employee as an Engineer for the City of Rockville for over 37 years, where he was honored with numerous employee awards and dedications while helping to improve the City of Rockville Md. He also spent many, many hours working with his Brother Dick and his much loved nephew Patrick at the Family Welding Shop in Poolesville Md. and was very involved for years in local politics and even served as Mayor of Poolesville in his earlier life. Gerry was a proud member of the Poolesville Community and was well liked, admired and respected by so many of the town residents he called friends over his 85 years living in Poolesville, Md. Gerry was an outstanding private pilot and airplane enthusiast who owned, worked on and flew numerous planes throughout his life, many times with his good friend Charles Davis and he was always so happy and excited when taking his family on plane rides, vacations and family trips all over the United States in his private planes. Gerry also enjoyed working on cars, home improvement projects, spending time working with and helping his Brother Dick at the Family Welding Shop, Morningstar Welding in Poolesville, Md. which their father Murrel ran before them and he was able to build his own private home here in Poolesville, Md. singlehandedly by himself 2 separate times, once in 1963 and again in 1977 when a house fire destroyed the first family home he had built. He was a self-taught, master craftsman and mechanic who could repair or build literally anything. Gerry was an avid reader, museum goer and history buff who loved traveling with his family and learning about the history of this great country. Gerry loved animals of all kinds, his favorite animal was the American Eagle, he loved visiting farms, Assateague Island to see the Ponies and other wildlife, he loved going to the Zoo with his Children and Grandchildren and above all he loved taking care of and playing with his pet dogs and cat through the years, Daj, Tinkerbell, Peanut and Gilly. Gerry and Peggy loved traveling and vacationing with Shari and Steve and all their Grandkids and family members. Gerry and Peggy and their family spent a lifetime of summers traveling to their favorite vacation spots throughout the country and especially cherished the times spent on family vacations to the beach and their trips to Williamsburg, Va. and visiting Uncle Archie and his wife Kathleen. A lifetime of laughs and memories will forever be remembered from these special times. Gerry was most happy and joyful when spending time with his devoted and loving wife Peggy and his Children, his Grand Children, his Great Grandchild and his entire family. Time spent at family gatherings, Holidays, family dinners, going to Church, special occasions and watching his children and grandchildren playing sports and at school events was the best of times for Gerry and Peggy and his entire family. Family truly meant everything to Gerry, who sincerely devoted himself and his life in the service of his family and friends, it was always said and always known, if you have a problem, a need or help with anything, "Call Gerry, he'll know what to do" and he always did. Gerry loved his family with all his heart and they loved him. Gerry was surrounded by his loving family his entire life right up to the day he passed peacefully into God's arms surrounded by so many who loved and cherished him. Gerry set an example of love, devotion and dedication for his entire family. Gerry loved life to the fullest and spent every day loving his cherished wife Peggy and his entire family right up to the time he took his final breath here on this earth. Gerry passed into Heaven holding his precious wife Peggy's and his loving daughter-n-law, RaNae's hands and he had a smile on his face as he did for 85 years. Gerry was a humble, loving, caring man who was much loved by his family, friends, and his special community of Poolesville Md. It was once said in a service award ceremony to honor Gerry's 47 years of service to his country and his work, "I never met a person who didn't sincerely respect, admire, like and appreciate Gerry Morningstar". May he rest in the arms of Jesus for Eternity. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22 from 6-8 PM at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, MD 20838 where funeral services will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, August 23. Interment to follow at Monocacy Cemetery, 19801 W Hunter Rd, Beallsville, MD 20839.
