Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Stratford, with Rev. Dave Fernlund officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Geraldine Mae Young, daughter of Floyd and Gladys Carlson Young, was born May 6, 1930 on a farm northeast of Stratford. She started her schooling at Stanhope, then attended the White Elephant rural school, northeast of Stratford. She graduated from Stratford high school in 1947. She was employed by the Stratford school system as a secretary. In 1949, she became the secretary for the Woodbury County Superintendent of schools. She returned to Stratford in 1950 and was secretary for the Hamilton County school system. On May 19, 1951, she married Robert E. Conklin at Webster City. In 1966, she became assistant city clerk for Stratford, later serving as city clerk. She had worked for the City of Stratford for 26 years retiring in 1992. The couple moved to Webster City in 1983 and recently moved to Stratford. Mrs. Conklin is survived by her husband, Robert; sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Lynn Conklin, Clark and Mary Conklin, all of Stratford; Carmen Conklin of Webster City; Clayton and Lisa Conklin of Urbandale; daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Steve Hill of Newton; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; mother, Gladys Young; sister, Genevieve Ferrari; brother, Darrell Young; all of Stratford, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother-in-law Robert Ferrari. She was baptized in the McGuire Bend United Brethren Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid, music, Sunday school and bible school. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed keeping family records through photography and genealogy records.
