His survivors include two sons: Paul (Cyndi) Dorathy of Baldwin City, KS and Brian (Robin) Dorathy of Goodyear, AZ; two daughters Terri (Roger) Young of Deerfield, KS and Michelle (Mike) Sorden of Baldwin City, KS; one brother Billy Dorathy of Clinton, IA; two sisters: Barbara Hoy of Conyers, GA and Gwen (Wayne) Schaper of Tallahassee, Florida; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He earned B.S., M.S., and PhD. degrees from the University of Iowa. He was a middle school teacher (4 years), an elementary school principal (5 years), and a professor at Emporia State University (26 years) until he retired in 1994. At the University, Gerry served on the Faculty Senate and the Graduate Council; he served on the following University Committees: Scholarship Awards, Financial Aid Appeals, Audio Visual, Library, Computer, General Education. In the Emporia Community, Gerry served on the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, the Tri-County Selective Service Board, The Emporia Credit Union Credit Union Board of Directors and the Emporia Credit Union Credit Committee. Gerry was a member of the National Education Association, the National Elementary Principal's Association, the Teachers of Mathematics, the American Association of Supervision and Curriculum, and The National Academic Advising Association. He spent many years in Scouting. He started as a Bobcat Cub Scout followed as a Wolf, Bear, and Lion each with a Gold and a Silver Arrow. He progressed into Boy Scouts earning the ranks of Tenderfoot, First Class, Second Class, Star, Life. He was initiated into the Order of the Arrow. He served several years as a den chief. In his later years, he devoted many hours of his time to search out information related to his ancestors. He eventually had gathered information relative to 1,000 ancestors. Gerry's dash through life involved him with many people.
