She was confirmed in St. Helena's Catholic Church at... Read More	Gertrude, wife of Harry A. Simmon, departed this life in Geneva, Neb., Thursday, November 14, 1929 aged 27 years and 11 days. Mrs. Simmon was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. O'Brien of Momence Township in this county. She was born and reared in this county and she received her early education here. She graduated from the Sutton high school in 1920 and from the Immaculate Conception Academy of Hastings, Neb., in 1921. She taught several terms in the schools of Fillmore County. She was confirmed in St. Helena's Catholic Church at Grafton in 1913 by Father P. J. Healy. She was united in marriage with Harry A. Simmon in Grafton February 17, 1925. To this union a son, John Charles was born and also an infant son, Harry Jr., for whom she sacrificed her life and who survived but a few hours. Mrs. Simmon is survived by her husband, her little son; her father and mother; her aged grandmother, Mrs. Bridget O'Brien of Grafton; other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral service was conducted at St. Helena's Church in Grafton by Fathers Hagan of Grafton and Healy of Geneva, at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. Burial was in the family lot in Grafton. The pallbearers were John and Ben Koehler, Golie Swails, Fred Meyer, Walter Weis and Thomas J. Keenan. The floral tributes were beautiful and were testimonials of the love and esteem of relatives and friends. "None knew thee but to love thee. None named thee but to praise." The passing of Mrs. Simmon is a personal loss to all with whom she came in contact and her kindly influence can never die. She was a young woman who exemplified all that was finest and best in life. Possessing a nature of rare sweetness and trust, her life was one of unselfish devotion. Her quiet dignity, pleasant smile and gracious manner, that were all her own, endeared her to all who had the honor of knowing her. She was an ardent worker in the church of her faith. As a Christian woman and worker, she had few equals. Faithfulness to all life's duties and demands was apparently the supreme watchword of her life. She has gone from us, but her life will live on and our grief at her going is lessened by the thought that she has gone to be with Him, whom hat having seen she loved. Bowing in reverence to the supreme wisdom of our Heavenly Father, we look to Him for solace in the transition of the spirit of Gertrude. The Nebraska Signal November 1929
