She passed away at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Gertrude graduated from St. Marys Academy in ONeil, NE. She was teaching when she met Clair W. Foster. They were married May 22, 1941. They raised 10 children: 8 girls and 2 boys on Shady Grove Pony Ranch northwest of Sparks, NE. After marrying Clair, and while raising her family, she graduated with honors from Chadron State College. As an educator she touched the lives of the many children in the area. Gertrude was a wealth of information for her family and friends. Gertrude was a refined lady who loved music and was a beautiful pianist. She loved nature, teaching, gardening, hunting and riding. Above all was her love for God, her husband Clair, her 10 children, 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Jim, sons-in-law TR Stalley and Jim Swezey; brothers Bill and George Langer; sisters Anna Sherman, Mary Langer and Sister Marianne. She is survived by her sister Irma Frederickson of Ainsworth; sisters-in-law Darlene Ryschon and Martha Foster, both of Valentine; children: Jean Colona of Independence, MO, Kaye Scully of Lincoln, NE, Ken & Johana Foster of Mulino, OR, Patricia Stalley of Riverton, WY, Mary & Dr. Bob Parker of Lincoln, NE, Nancy Swezey of Doniphan, NE, Rose Ann & Lonnie Ewan of Sparks, NE, Ruth Foster of Scottsdale, AZ and Clara Jo & Wade Broneman of Harrold, SD; and daughter-in-law Mary Lou Foster of Colorado Springs, CO. A rosary and prayer service was held Wednesday evening followed by funeral Mass of Christian Burial Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine.
