He was born on September 3, 1912 in Nysted, Nebraska to Peter and Anna Christoffersen. He spent his early years in Howard County, Nebraska. Christoffersen, age 94, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Nebraska. He was born on September 3, 1912 in Nysted, Nebraska to Peter and Anna Christoffersen. He spent his early years in Howard County, Nebraska. In 1920 he moved with his parents, sisters and brother to Hay Springs, Nebraska, and the family made their home on Mirage Flats. He was educated in the rural schools on Mirage Flats through the 8th grade and then went to work at whatever jobs he could find in the early 30’s. He married Virginia Nancy Bowman on March 14, 1935, and they had one son, Wayne. Gil farmed on Mirage Flats until 1958 when he went into the painting and wallpapering business, Gil’s Painting Service. They kept their farm until 1992 when they moved to Sunset Heights in Hay Springs. Gil was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Mirage Flats where he served as President, Treasurer, Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. He and Virginia were sponsors of the Young Peoples Luther League for many years where he taught folk dancing and square dancing. He was also active in the Hay Springs Senior Center where he served as President, Treasurer and Board Member. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, in April 2006; his parents; brother, Edgar Christoffersen; sisters, Olga Gerard, Agnes Andreasen, Erma Andreasen, Elaine Ainslie, and great-grandson, Sawyer King Christoffersen. He is survived by his son, Wayne and his wife, Beth; grandchildren Valori (Kenneth) Maresco, Kevin (Christy) Christoffersen, Lizbeth (Art) Still, Jennifer (Dennis) Still, Gregory (Duke) Christoffersen; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
