Read More	The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 10 Dec 1958 Gilbert Swerdfeger Passed Away Friday Gilbert Swerdfeger, 69, passed away suddenly Friday morning at his ranch home in Pleasant Valley. He had been in poor health for some months. Death was due to a heart ailment. Last September he fell and broke his hip and spent three or four months in the local hospital. Gilbert Swerdfeger was born on the old squatter rights homestead on Belt Creek, purchased in 1882 by Karl and Louise Cappiana Holtzschuler, grandparents. He spent his boyhood in that area. In 1904, when land was available in Canada, he acquired a homestead there. He returned to Montana in 1910 and filed on a 320 acre homestead near Clear Lake in this county, where he engaged in farming and custom work for others. He was united in marriage to Mabel Ryan, of this city, in 1918. She passed away in 1924. There was one daughter, Eleanor. Due to ill health he was forced to leave the farm, spending much of his time in and around Great Falls. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Frieling) Brodock in 1930 and some time later he purchased his present ranch, residing there until his death. He had visited in town a day or two prior to his death, hence the news of his sudden passing was a great shock to all. Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Meeks, of Fort Benton; a stepson, Charles Brodock, of Pleasant Valley; two brothers, Roy and Arthur Swerdfeger, of Great Falls; a sister, Mrs. Stella Butler, of Great Falls; and several grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death, Carl in 1947 and Earl in March 1955. Funeral services were held from the Benton Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. Lloyd Hanley, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial was in the family plot in Riverside cemetery.
