He was baptized March 17, 1907 at Peace Lutheran church, Ryan. He attended the rural Adams township schools and attended Coggon High School. Following his schooling he engaged in farming in the Ryan area. On Sep. 5, 1940, he was united in marriage with Irene B. Klink at Ryan, IA. They farmed in the Ryan area until Gilbert's retirement and then moved into Manchester. Irene passed away on Dec. 13, 1982. On Dec. 9, 1984, Gilbert married Lucy Freeze in Marion, IA. They lived at his home in Manchester until his death. Gilbert was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church, Ryan. He was a member of Farm Bureau and of the Senior Citizens. He loved playing cards and fishing. He passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 21, 1985 at Manchester, IA. He had attained the age of 78 years, 9 months and 23 days. He leaves to mourn his departure: his wife, Lucy of Manchester; one son, William of Ryan and one daughter, Joyce Schlueter of Ryan; one stepson, Noel Freeze of Marion; a sister, Hazel Keebler of Ryan; a niece, Mary Minehart of Brooklyn; 7 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Irene; 4 brothers; Albert, Clarence, Floyd and an infant brother. May he rest in peace and may the eternal light shine upon him. Services were held today (Monday) at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran church in Manchester with the Rev. Herbert Schiller officiating. Burial was in the Peace Lutheran cemetery in Ryan. Gilbert William Wenger was born Jan. 29, 1907 in Milo township, Delaware county, the son of Carl Frederick and Elizabeth (Eggiman) Wenger. He attended rural Adams township schools and Coggon high school. He had lived the greater part of his life in rural Ryan. He married Irene B. Klink on Sep. 5, 1940 in Ryan. She passed away on Dec. 13, 1982. He married Lucy Freeze in Marion on Dec. 9, 1984. A retired farmer, he was a long-time member of the Peace Lutheran church in Ryan; involved in the Senior Citizens; enjoyed playing cards and fishing, and a member of Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Freeze) Wenger of Manchester; a son, William and a daughter, Joyce Schlueter, both of Ryan; a step-son, Noel Freeze of Marion; a sister, Hazel Keebler of Ryan; a niece, Mary Minehart of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Irene; four brothers, Albert, Clarence, Floyd and an infant brother. Vernon funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
