Carl Frederick Wenger, 79, prominent Ryan citizen, died at Independence on Saturday, where he had been hospitalized for two weeks. Mr. Wenger was a retired farmer. A member of the Lutheran church, he had served on the church council for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Ryan town council, and a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood. He had served as an Adams Township trustee for a number of years. He was born Aug. 28, 1875, in Gurzelin Kanton, Bern, Switzerland, the son of John and Anna (Heddem) Wenger. He came to the United States as a youth and was a naturalized citizen of this country. On Feb. 20, 1901, he and Lizzie Eggeman were married in Milo township. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Albert, Clarence, Gilbert and Floyd, all of Ryan, and one daughter, Mrs. Albert Keebler, also of Ryan. Also surviving are four brothers, Godfrey, Chris and Edward, all of Manchester, and William of Monticello; one sister, Mrs. Flora Hamblin of Manchester, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and an infant son. Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, at the residence at 1 p.m. and at Peace Lutheran church in Ryan at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Ludolph Lechner, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Ryan Lutheran cemetery. The Gill Funeral service is in charge of arrangements.
