Ushers were Mrs. Guy Jones and Mrs. E.R. Protheroe. Gilman Hatch Wisner was born in Eldora on June 14, 1890, the son of George H. and Fanny Wisner. He spent most of his life in Eldora, graduated from the Eldora High School in the Class of 1908 and attended the Shattuck Military Academy at Faribault, Minnesota. He furthered his education by attending the University of Minnesota and the University of Pennsylvania. Upon completing his education he returned to Eldora to manage his interests in Hardin County. He served with the United States Marine Corps during World War I. He was united in marriage with Eva Jones November 8, 1919. To this union was born one son, Gordon who served his country in World War II and the Korean War and died May 30, 1954. Surviving are his wife and a sister, Mrs. Lois Bloomquist of Emily, Minnesota. The Wisner family were pioneers of Iowa and contributed much to the welfare of the town of Eldora and Hardin County. Mr. Wisner's father, George H. Wisner built the Wisner Opera House, where the United Food Market is now located in 1892 for $62,000. It burned in 1921 in the worst fire of Eldora's history. Mr. Wisner was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Walter Sayer Post of the American Legion. Mr. Wisner's mother, Fanny Emeny passed away in 1953 just prior to Eldora's Centennial celebration. She had been honored by being elected Eldora Centennial Queen.
