Description	:	STIERS, GLADYS ALPHA—Gladys Alpha Stiers, daughter of John and Maude Walker McPeck, was born near Geneva on April 19, 1909, and died on April 9, 1986, at Mesquite, Texas, at the age of 76 years, 1 months and 20 days. She was one of four children in the family. Read More	STIERS, GLADYS ALPHA—Gladys Alpha Stiers, daughter of John and Maude Walker McPeck, was born near Geneva on April 19, 1909, and died on April 9, 1986, at Mesquite, Texas, at the age of 76 years, 1 months and 20 days. She was one of four children in the family. Gladys attended country grade school in District 46 until the fifth grade, and then continued her education in the Geneva Public School system, graduating from high school in 1927. While in high school, she started working for the Telephone Company as an operator in 1924 and eventually completed 31 years of service. She was married to Harold Stiers on April 30, 1936. Two children blessed this family. They lived in Indiana for two years, returning to Geneva where Gladys and Harold remained. Gladys lived all of her life in Fillmore county, except for the two years in Indiana. She was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church and Fran Woods Chapter of Independent Telephone Workers. Preceding Gladys in death were her parents, husband, Harold; and a brother, Leslie McPeck. She is survived by her son, William and his wife Bonnie, of York; a daughter Brenda Gerstung of Mesquite, Tx.; a brother, Frank McPeck of Geneva; a sister, Mrs. William (Mildred) Mouden of Osceola; and three granddaughters, Julie Stiers of York and Janiece and Cherle Gerstung of Mesquite, Texas. Funeral services were conducted from Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Monday, April 14, with the Rev. Donald F. Marsh of the United Methodist Church of Geneva officiating. Those serving as pallbearers were Wayne Churchill, Chester Dudley, Derrel Hutchens, Maynard Merryman, Joe Schelkopf and Val Swanson. Interment was in the Geneva public cemetery.
