Description	:	From the Big Timber "Pioneer", October 6-12, 2006: Gladys G. Strom of 110 North Oak, Townsend, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 after a long illness. Mrs. Strom was born on January 22, 1922 in Big Timber to Abel and Clara K. Skaarland. After Mrs. Strom graduated from high school in Big Timber, she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to find work and see relatives. Strom of 110 North Oak, Townsend, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 after a long illness. Mrs. Strom was born on January 22, 1922 in Big Timber to Abel and Clara K. Skaarland. After Mrs. Strom graduated from high school in Big Timber, she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to find work and see relatives. There she met and later married, in 1941, John William Gerlach, and they began their married life in Racine, Wisconsin. They had two children from that marriage, and after Mr. Gerlach's death in August 1959, Mrs. Strom, known as "Judy" and "Glady", moved her family back to Montana to be near her brothers and their families in Livingston. There she raised two sons, John William (Bill) and Bruce. While living in Livingston, she worked for Dan Bailey's Fly Shop and the local Farmers Insurance agency. In February, 1970 Gladys married Norman Strom and they were married for 33 years until Mr. Strom's passing in 2003. Together Norman and Gladys, while Norman was employed by the Burlington Northern, moved from Livingston to Kennewick, Washington and ultimately retired to the family home at 510 South Walnut in Townsend. Mrs. Strom is survived by sons John William Gerlach, and wife Georgette, of Missoula, and Bruce Gerlach, and wife Nancy, of Bozeman. She is also survived by her two loving granddaughters, Lori and Sharon Gerlach, of Portland, Oregon, who loved their grandmother dearly and thought the world of her. Other survivors include Agnes Skaarland and family of Livingston, Winnie Skaarland and family of East Helena, Hank Smasne and family of Richland, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Hazel, and brothers Elmer and Kenneth Skaarland. Gladys loved to travel, especially to the West coast and fish for Salmon, go camping at Canyon Ferry, and most especially, socializing! She loved to visit and have coffee with her friends in Townsend, who included Del and Delores Bradway. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held on October 28, 2006, with internment in the Big Timber Cemetery. -------------------------
