Description	:	Gladys Mae (Hogeland) Meyer was born the eighth of ten children to John Allen and Anna Caroline (Petersen) Hogeland on August 27, 1928 at Bloomington, Nebraska. She departed his life on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 92, just three weeks short of 93. Gladys started school in Riverton, Nebraska, and then attended Franklin Public Schools. Read More	Gladys Mae (Hogeland) Meyer was born the eighth of ten children to John Allen and Anna Caroline (Petersen) Hogeland on August 27, 1928 at Bloomington, Nebraska. She departed his life on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 92, just three weeks short of 93. Gladys started school in Riverton, Nebraska, and then attended Franklin Public Schools. She graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1947. On June 25, 1950, Gladys Mae Hogeland was united in marriage to William H. "Bill" Meyer in Alma. To this union three children were born: Jerome "Jerry" Allen, Jody Mae, and Jill Ann. They moved to McCook, Nebraska: North Platte, Nebraska; Hastings, Nebraska; and then back to Alma. Gladys worked at the Harlan County Bank before moving to McCook, and worked at the 1st National Bank, while there. While living in North Platte and Hastings, she was a busy mother and wife. When the family moved back to Alma, Gladys was busy at the Meyer Corner – Café and Lounge. When a fire destroyed the business, Gladys found work at the Hogeland Market, owned by her brother, John and his wife, Edith; she enjoyed working there until 1999. She then began helping her daughter, Jill Ann, in her gift shops, "Glad'ees Gifts", named after Gladys by her grandson, Branton, until it sold in 2013. In 1952, prior to children, Gladys joined the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in McCook. She transferred her membership to North Platte and then to Hastings, and helped with starting a Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Chapter in Alma in 1981. She always enjoyed the events and her many sorority sisters! Gladys joined the Franklin United Methodist Church and later transferred her membership to Alma. She was proud to receive her 50 year membership pin and was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Gladys was preceded in death by her father on December 16, 1953; her mother on April 15, 1975; her husband, Bill on March 22, 1993; and her siblings: Ruby (Hilbert) Thaete; Roy (Martha) Hogeland; Dorothy (Daniel) Waggoner; John (Edith) Hogeland; Bertha (Clayton) Waggoner; Ernest (Bette) Hogeland; Amy (John) Peterson; Preston (Dee) Hogeland; and Robert (JoAnn) Hogeland; two sisters-in-law: Coral Meyer; and Shirley (Leo) Bantam; two nieces: Pam (Hogeland) Cederburg; and Margery Bantam; three nephews: Jeffrey Bantam; William "Bill" Hogeland; and Marlin Kammann; and one great-nephew, Adam Kammann. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Jerry Meyer and his wife, Wendy of St. Johns, Florida; Jody Mae Frerichs and her husband, Don of Axtell, Nebraska; and Jill Ann Bauer and her husband, Crale of Hildreth, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Ann (Meyer) LeFiles and her husband, Mark of St. Johns, Florida; Celeste (Bauer) Hawley and her husband, Matt of Hastings; William John Frerichs and his wife, Holly of Omaha, Nebraska; Christine (Frerichs) Reimer and her husband, Michael of Park City, Kansas; Branton Bauer of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Benjamin Frerichs of Lincoln, Nebraska; six great-grandchildren: Nolan, Keegan, and Graham Hawley; Gage and Kinsley LeFiles; and Roman Reimer; along with many extended family members. Her family and her extended family were the joys in her life. Gladys looked forward to all the Hogeland Reunions, receiving phone calls, and visits of her nieces and nephews who stopped in to visit and sometimes brought treats. She kept busy making yarn hangers and her famous peanut brittle, (And YES, she passed her recipe to Jill Ann!) Some of her greatest joys included, watching her grandchildren grow up and playing, Kings on the Corner, with them; and her great-grandsons, Nolan, Keegan, and Graham loved her yarn balls. Gladys and her sisters would go shopping together, and travel to see Sis Ruby in Kansas. They had many great memories together and enjoyed being together.
