Atkinson On Saturday, March 12th, at 6 a.m., Gladys Pierson, beloved wife of John C. Atkinson, passed away in Lord Dufferin hospital at the age of 56 years. A patient in the hospital for the last six weeks, it was thought last week that she was recovering, but she took an unexpected relapse on Friday, March 11th, and passed away the following morning. She is survived by her husband, one brother, Douglas, of Glen Cross, and one sister, Mrs. W. Kelloway, of Orangeville, who have the sympathy of the community in their trying bereavement. The late Mrs. Atkinson was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Pierson, of Mono township. On April 10, 1928, she was united in marriage to John C. Atkinson and took up residence on the 7th Line, Mono, where she and her husband resided until last autumn, when they moved to Orangeville. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of St. John’s Church, Mono, where she had taken an active part in church work since her marriage. She was also a member of the Blount Women’s Institute. She had been in ill-health for a considerable time, but through all her sufferings was so patient and cheerful and so thoughtful of others that she was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her. There was a large attendance of relatives and neighbors at the funeral service, which was held in the Turner Funeral Home at 2 o’clock on Monday afternoon, March 14th. Rev. A. A. Read, rector of Mono East Parish, was the officiating minister. Temporary interment was made in the Forest Lawn Mortuary. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, 7th Line, Mono, later. The pallbearers were Robert Mills, Jos. Varey, Clarence Coleman, William Taylor, Clarence Storey and Albert Clark, and the flowerbearers John Hearder, Donald Pierson, Elmer Bowers, Earl Betteson, Henry Taylor, Wallace Storey, Ray Lyons, Gordon Duke and Alex.
