Gladys was born on June 27, 1927, in Glendive, the daughter of Elmer and Mattie Stimpson. She grew up in Hardin and graduated from Columbus High School. Read More	*OBIT* COLUMBUS — Gladys Kober, age 83, passed away with grace and courage after fighting a long hard battle with COPD on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011. Gladys was born on June 27, 1927, in Glendive, the daughter of Elmer and Mattie Stimpson. She grew up in Hardin and graduated from Columbus High School. She met Paul Kober in Columbus in 1945 while working for Dr. Neville. When Paul returned from the service, they were married in Billings in 1946. They started their family together in Columbus and raised three children: Paul, Joy and Sally. In addition to caring for her home and family, Gladys was active in community service. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary. She was involved in such activities as den mother for Cub Scouts, assistant leader of Girl Scouts and a teacher in Sunday School. During her career, she worked at the County Treasurer Office, Mandeville Insurance Agency, owned and operated Paul and Pete's Market and as a book keeper for Montana Power Company. She loved the great outdoors, golfing, fishing with Paul and bowling at the Air Bowl on league night with her precious friends. She was a passionate sports fan and loved watching baseball, basketball and football. Gladys had a thirst for knowledge, often times reading the encyclopedia at nights after a long hard day at work. Working crossword puzzles and just plain reading were her joy! Gladys has gotten her strength of character to meet life and make the most of it, to raise her family according to high principles passed down from her own mother. She was a loving mother, wife and friend. May God bless her! Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Joy; her son, Paul; and her husband, Paul, of 61 years; her parents, Elmer and Mattie Stimpson; three sisters, Mary Barovich, Edna Mae Miller, Eunice Essex; and one brother, Ike Stimpson. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Reid, son-in-law Gary Reid; three sisters, Mable Stubbe, Maretta French, Cora Lee Carlson; and two brothers, George Stimpson and Buzz Stimpson; plus two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Smith Funeral Chapel of Laurel is in charge of arrangements. Cremation has taken place and the service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, 205 E. First Ave. N. in Columbus on Feb. 16, at 11 a.m.
