Born June 27, 1925, in Pleasant Grove, she was the daughter of Guy F. and Nettie M. Toft Wasson. She married Russell Van Tuyl on June 10, 1944, in Pleasant Grove. Van Tuyl, 75, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Born June 27, 1925, in Pleasant Grove, she was the daughter of Guy F. and Nettie M. Toft Wasson. She married Russell Van Tuyl on June 10, 1944, in Pleasant Grove. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1972. She was raised, educated, and graduated from high school in the Pleasant Grove area. Mrs. Van Tuyl worked at the Fairfield Glove Company, Sheaffer Pen, the J.C. Penney Company, and was a cook for the Mount Pleasant Community School District at the time of her retirement. She also helped her husband during his tenure as Henry County sheriff. Being a loving and supportive grandmother was a priority for Mrs. Van Tuyl. She had been a member of the Eastern Star and served as a Rainbow Mother Advisor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Auten of Tulsa, Okla., and Nancy Van Trump of Mount Pleasant; one son, Jerry Van Tuyl of Cartersville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Lois Martin of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at the Olson~Powell Memorial Home in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Van Tuyl will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
