Read More	Gorin pilot Glen Wiley dies at 71 Gorin, Mo. – Glen Marion Wiley, 71, of Gorin, farmer, pilot and airport operator, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 3, 1985) in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Wiley was born Sept. 28, 1913, in Williamstown, a son of George Marion and Lizzie Alta Chambers Wiley. He married Bette Jane Pollock June 8, 1941, in Gorin. She survives. Mr. Wiley lived a short time in Williamstown, but spent most of his life on the family farm 3.5 miles northwest of Gorin. Mr. Wiley was active in the community and the Gorin Christian Church, where he was a former deacon. He established Wiley’s Airport in 1946 and oversaw its operation until his death. He was a musician and singer, proficient on the electric organ. He led his own country and western band for many years and had performed on Carthage radio station WCAZ in the early 1930s. Mr. Wiley was a member of the Missouri Flying Farmers, serving as state president two years and as co-editor of the chapter newsletter three years. He was also affiliated with the International Flying Farmers, which named him Missouri State Flying Farmer of the Year in 1961 and Missouri Airport Operator of the Year in 1973. Mr. Wiley was an active member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association since 1947 and was a licensed safety flight instructor since 1949. In 1975, Mr. Wiley was named Northeast Missouri safety counselor by the Federal Aviation Administration. The Glen Wiley Chapter of the Missouri Pilots Association was named in his honor. Mr. Wiley received the Rotary Citizenship Award from the Scotland County Chapter, Rotary International, May 31, 1985. He and the airport hosted the Glen Wiley Annual Air Show for 39 consecutive years. Mr. Wiley was an active PTA member and 4-H leader. Also surviving are two sons, Gary Wayne Wiley of Quincy, and Airman first class Tary Alan Wiley, stationed with the Air Force at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Miss.; a sister, Valery Belle Wiley Mickle Pfeiffer of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marion Jane Wiley. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Gorin Christian Church by the Rev. Kenneth Campbell and the Rev. Robert Harrison. Burial will be in Gorin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Scotland County Memorial Hospital Nursing Staff. The Payne-Gerth Funeral Home of Memphis is in charge of arrangements.
