He was born on May 24, 1942 in Beatrice to Ernest and Thelma (Beasley) Bence. He was a 1960 graduate of Holmesville High School. He was born on May 24, 1942 in Beatrice to Ernest and Thelma (Beasley) Bence. He was a 1960 graduate of Holmesville High School. Glen served his country in Company C of the Nebraska National Guard in the 1960’s. Glen married Claye Hoatson on March 6, 1970 in Beatrice. He farmed South of Beatrice and was a heavy equipment operator for Willet Trenching, Rabel Construction and Beatrice Construction before moving to Wymore in 1990. He then worked as a road grader for Gage County, retiring in 2011. He had attended the First Baptist Church in Beatrice. Glen had been a member of the Wymore American Legion and the Beatrice Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching old western movies, yardwork, grilling, and enjoyed racing sprint cars. Glen was a family man and enjoyed attending family activities. Survivors include his wife Claye; children Tammy (Gail) Schmit of Beatrice, Michael L. (Anita) Bence of Kansas City, MO, John A. (Ann) Bence of Beatrice, Denise (Anthony) Shepardson of Wymore, and Deanna (Greg) Hill of Creston, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; sisters Patty (Ret. Lt. Colonel Jack) Van Allen of Zephyrhills, Florida and Judy Pauley of Lakewood, CO; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, April 8th at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with casual wear requested by his family. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery with Military graveside services provided by the Wymore American Legion Post. There will be no viewing or visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials established to Three’s Pieces for Autism Awareness and Wymore/Blue Springs Area Park Improvement Fund with the funeral home in charge.
