Read More	Son of Nathan White "Nate" Penick and Mary Ann Edwards OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, December 3, 1998 PENICK Glenn Penick, son of Nate W. and Mary Ann (Edwards) Penick, was born Feb. 26, 1910, on the family farm in Lucas County, Iowa, and died Nov. 30, 1998, at the Osceola Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 88 years and 9 months. He attended Puckerbrush School in Otter Creek Township through the eighth grade. Glenn was a mechanic all of his life. He was inducted into the U.S. Army March 24, 1942 and was discharged Nov. 9, 1945 as Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal for Heroism from General John R. Hodges, Commander General XXIV Corps, whose troops conquered southern and western Leyte in the Philippines. He was awarded several other medals of honor as well. Glenn lived on the farm all of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports in his younger days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lelah Triggs of Indianola and Mildred Clarke of Dallas; and two brothers, Robert of Indianola and Owen of Carlisle. Glenn is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Thelma Haltom of Osceola, Vera Doherty of Chariton, Flossie Baker and husband Kenneth of Lucas, John and wife Juanita of Milo, Jim and wife Jean of Lucas; two sisters-in-law, Vera Penick of Indianola and Grace Penick of Carlisle. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998 at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton, with the Rev. Silas Andersen officiating. Singer and organist was Colene Greubel. Burial was at the Norwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn's nephews, James O. Penick, Donald A. "Rusty" Haltom, James L. Penick, Rex L. Marker, Mike Baker and Ron Penick. Honorary bearers were nephews, Gary Penick, Richard Marker, Glenn Triggs, Jeff Penick, Kenneth Penick, Rick Penick, John Triggs, Dennis Penick, Eldon Triggs, Fred Clark and Robert Penick.
