Son of Nathan White "Nate" Penick and Mary Ann Edwards OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, March 6, 1997 PENICK Robert Lewis Penick, son of Nathan and Mary Ann Penick, was born May 9, 1916 near Norwood, Iowa and departed this life March 1, 1997 at the Urbandale Care Center in Urbandale at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 20 days. On Jan. 28, 1940 he was united in marriage to Vera Marker and to this union six children were born, Robert, Carole, Loretta, Alice, Margaret and Ronald. In 1936 he gave his heart to the Lord in a revival conducted by the Revs. Lewis and Gladys Martin. Later he rededicated his life to the Lord. Bob attended Pleasant Ridge School and graduated from Norwood High School in 1934. He loved the farm and livestock and spent most of his life farming in the Norwood vicinity on various farms. His other jobs included working at Solar Aircraft, being a mechanic and selling feed and fertilizer. Because of ill health in 1990, he and Vera moved to Indianola and resided there until he was hospitalized in December 1996. From then until his death, he was in the hospital or nursing home. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lelah Triggs and Mildred Clarke, one brother, Owen Penick, and two grandchildren, Anthony Cox and Wes Van Wyk. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Vera; his children, Robert E. and wife Eve of Caroona, New South Wales, Australia, Carole Gullion and husband Ralph of Knoxville, Loretta Van Wyk and husband Vernon of Grinnell, Alice Powers and husband Gary of Corinth, Texas, Margaret Drury and husband David of Waukee, and Ronald and wife Beverly of Prairie City. Also surviving are three brothers, Glenn of Osceola, John of Milo, and Jim of Lucas; three sisters, Thelma Haltom of Osceola, Vera Doherty of Chariton and Flossie Baker of Lucas; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was a devoted husband and father. He was loved and will be missed by those who knew him.
