Description	:	Godfrey Watters was born at St. Margaret's Westminster Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. St. Margaret's is located north of the Severn River and south of the Patapsco. He was the son of Henry Watters and Ann Wheelock Watters, also of Anne Arundel County. On Nov 3, 1726, Godfrey married Sarah White, daughter of Stephen White and Sarah Hall White. All of their children (except for Rev. Wm Watters) were born in Anne Arundel County. This land is on Thomas Run Road in Harford County, where the current Thomas Run Church is located In 1752, Godfrey was elected a vestryman by St. John's Episcopal Church, Joppa Md. (Source- vestry minutes at the Md Historical Society) "Godfrey Watters was a vestryman of a parish church called Trappe on Deer Creek". (Ed Schell, historian- Lovely Lane Methodist Church) At a vestry met this 5th. day of March 1754 and present. The Rev. Mr. Hugh Deans, Mr. Roger Boyce, Mr. Thos. Waltham, Mr. Benj. Norris, Mr. Godfrey Watter, Mr. Jno. Howard and Mr. Geo. Scimmons. Test. John Roberts Reg. The vestry adjourns until the first Tuesday in April next." page 123 Godfrey Watters is not mentioned as being present at the next vestry meeting "held in the town of Joppa this 2nd day of April 1754." However, in the vestry minutes of March 31, 1755, Godfrey's name appears in the following vestry minutes: " Vestry proceedings in the month of March Anno. Dom. 1755. At a vestry met this 31st. day of March one thousand seven hundred and fifty five and present. The Rev. Mr. Hugh Dean, Rector. Test. Jno. Roberts Reg. This being Easter Monday the day appointed by Act of Assembly to chose vestrymen and church wardens accordingly the majority of parishioners present with the Rev. Mr. Dean rector do elect Mr. Robt. Adair to serve as a vestryman during the time limited by the said act in the room of Mr. Godfrey Watters deceased being three years this day since the time the said Watters was elected a vestryman." page 127 -- These are notes from a typed copy of "Vestry Minutes of St. John's Episcopal Church" in Joppa, Maryland from the year 1755. I spelled the words exactly as they appeared on pages 123 and 127 which were the only pages where I could find the name Godfrey Watters. Apparently, he served as a vestryman at St. John's for about 2 years after he had moved in 1750 from Anne Arundel County to Baltimore County (now Harford County). The vestry minutes can be viewed at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore, Maryland. Godfrey Watters' 1754 Will: Liber 29, folio 156 GODFREY WATTERS, 7 April 1754 "In the name of God amen the seventh day of April 1754, I Godfrey Watters, of the province of Maryland, Baltimore County planter, being very sick and weak in Body, but of perfect mind, memory, thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say Principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hand of God that gave it and my Body I recommend to the Earth it be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estates wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me within this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: To son John Waters, a church Bible. To on Henry Waters, negro girl Nell. To dau. Mary Divers, negro boy Ben. To son Henery Waters, a book The Christans Guide.
