Description	:	ottfred Gunydus “G G” Schmidt was born April 10, 1894, abord the ship “Gundyus”, when it was but three days out at sea, enroute from Russia to America. He grew up on a farm near Ashley ND audit was there that he and Ottilia Maertz were married, February 3, 1916. The couple moved to a farm in the Mildred area where they remained until 1940. They then moved into the village of Mildred and, in 1951, on to Fallon. Mr Schmidt worked as ditch-rider for the Buffalo Raids Irrigation Project until his retirement. Parents of six sons and four daughters, the Schmidts celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary, February 3. They were members of German Congregational church until its dissolution, transferring then to the Fallon Evangelical church. Mr Schmidt, 88, died in his sleep, at his home, March 2, 1983. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas, who was killed in action in Germany in January 1945. He is survived by his wife, a sister , Emilia Kramer of Ashley ND, five sons, Rev Edward of Lind WA, Leonard of Helena, Gotthilf of Great Falls, Richard of Laurel and Alvin of Power; four daughters, Loraine Ban Grist of Miles City, Edna Straub of Baker, Meriam Hogue of Great Falls and Elder Fischer of Fairfield; 30 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
