Description	:	Ottilia Schmidt was born on September 14, 1897 on a farm near Ashley ND, the daughter of Thomas and Karolina Harter Mertz. On February 3, 1916, she and Gottfred G Schmidt were united in marriage at Ashley ND. They moved to a farm nine miles northeast of Mildred. In 1940, they moved to the town of Mildred. The family lived at Mildred until 1951 at which time they moved to Fallon. To this union were born six sons and four daughters. Read More	Ottilia Schmidt was born on September 14, 1897 on a farm near Ashley ND, the daughter of Thomas and Karolina Harter Mertz. On February 3, 1916, she and Gottfred G Schmidt were united in marriage at Ashley ND. They moved to a farm nine miles northeast of Mildred. In 1940, they moved to the town of Mildred. The family lived at Mildred until 1951 at which time they moved to Fallon. To this union were born six sons and four daughters. The Schmidts celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on February 3, 1953. Mrs Schmidt was a member of the defunct German Congregational Church after which time membership was moved to the Fallon Evangelical church. She was an avid homemaker and gardener and enjoyed reading. She also had been an active participant in church activities as well as the Fallon Senior Citizens Program. Mrs Schmidt, age 97, went on to Glory after a brief illness, March 19, 1995 at the Montana Deaconess Nursing Home in Great Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 2, 1983; a son, Thomas, who was killed in action in Germany in January of 1945; and a son Gotthilf of Great Falls in January of 1994. Survivors include a sister, Freida Dockter of Ashley ND; four sons, Edward of Lind WA, Leonard of Helena, Richard of Laurel, and Alvin of Great Falls; four daughters, Loraine Ban Grist of Terry, Edna Straub of Baker, Meriam Hogue of Great Falls, and Eldora Fischer of Fairfield; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. —condensed from The Terry Tribune 3-29-1995 p.10
