Mrs. Launer was at his bedside when death came. Mr. Launer went to Rochester the day before Christmas. He was suffering from trouble which included perforations in the intestinal tract and abdominal adhesions, according to his son, Ed Launer, who said today his father had been suffering from these conditions for the past 15 years during which time he underwent one operation in Omaha and three in Rochester. Mr. Launer, who was a mason and contractor by trade, was born in Germany. He came to this country at the age of 16, locating in Fremont where he was married in 1879. Twenty-two years ago Mr. Launer brought his family to Columbus where he worked for a time at his trade. He owned the business block occupied by Curry Brothers’ Clothing store and in apartments on the second floor of which he made his home. For a short time also, he was in the saloon business here. Mr. Launer is survived by his wife, two sons, Ed and George Launer, two brothers, John and Fred Launer, of Fremont, and two sisters, Mrs. John Houser and Mrs. John Swickey, of Fremont. Detailed arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, pending arrival of the body from Rochester. ____ Fremont Evening Tribune, January 3, 1924, p. 3, col. 5 GOTTLIEB LAUNER DIES AT HOSPITAL Was Resident of Fremont for Many Years Gottlieb Launer, 60, for many years a resident of Fremont but of late living in Columbus, died at 5:30 this morning at the St. Mary’s hospital in Rochester, Minn., following an operation, according to a telegram received by John Hauser. He had been ill for some time and had undergone various operations for relief. Mr. Launer first saw the light of day in Steinenbron, Wurtenberg, Germany. When still young he came to this country with his mother and brothers and sisters, settling first in Fremont. He lived here for 25 years, during which time he followed the occupation of a brick mason. About 19 years ago he moved to Columbus, where he established his residence. He made frequent trips to Fremont after leaving here and kept in close touch with his friends. He had a large acquaintance in both Fremont and Columbus and was held in high esteem. Surviving are his wife and two sons, George and Ed, of Columbus; two brothers, Fritz and John, of Fremont; and two sisters, Mrs. John Hauser and Mrs. John Zwicky, of Fremont. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ____ The Columbus [Nebr.] Daily Telegram, January 5, 1924, p. 1, col. 4 Funeral Sunday – Funeral services over the body of the late Gottlob Launer will be conducted by Rev. R. Neumarker at the German Evangelical Protestant church, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The body will be taken to Fremont, the former home of the family, on No. 18 tomorrow evening and services will be held in Bader’s chapel there Monday at 1:30 p.m., followed by burial in Ridge cemetery, at Fremont. Mrs. Launer arrived with the body from Rochester, Minn., on Union Pacific train No. 15 last evening, accompanied by her son, E. R. Launer, who had gone from here to meet her in Omaha.
